Rail Fence Riff takes the traditional rail fence block in a new direction. By varying the widths of the rails while maintaining a consistent dark-to-light color gradient, the design creates an intricate woven effect. Narrow strips of contrasting color add small, unexpected pops throughout the quilt.

Built entirely with strip piecing, Rail Fence Riff is a quick, beginner-friendly quilt that looks considerably more complicated than it is. Alternating and rotating the blocks creates a distinctive rhythm across the quilt, giving this traditional design a modern feel.

The sample quilt was made with Kona Cotton Solids in Forest, Juniper, Basil, Palm, and Carrot. The palette was inspired by Gracie (my Vizsla) darting through summer ferns, her rust-colored coat flashing against layers of bright and shadowy greens.
